How much will you really save?

How do you know when to change the toner?

Your ECOSYS warns you before it leaves you stranded. Clear signs:

• A "Toner low" or "Replace toner" message on the panel.
• Faded areas, streaks or vertical banding in your prints.
• Text that fades out on one side of the page.

Tip: when the first warning appears, take out the cartridge and gently rock it from side to side. That redistributes the toner that's left and buys you a few hundred more pages before the final swap.

Installation and resetting the counter

Changing the toner in an ECOSYS takes less than a minute: open the front cover, pull out the empty cartridge, gently rock the new one from side to side, slot it in until it clicks and close up. On most models the printer detects the new cartridge and resets the counter on its own; you don't need special chips or software. It depends on the exact model. The P2040dn and P2040dw use the TK-1160 (7,200 pages). The M2040dn, M2540dn, M2540dw and M2640idw use the TK-1170 (7,200 pages). The M2135dn, M2635dn, M2735dw, P2235dn and P2235dw use the TK-1150 (3,000 pages). When in doubt, check the label on the used cartridge.

How much do I save versus the original Kyocera toner?

Does compatible toner damage the printer or void the warranty?

No. A well-made compatible won't damage the machine or void the printer's warranty; European regulations expressly prohibit that. The TK-1150 yields 3,000 pages; the TK-1160 and TK-1170, 7,200 pages each. These figures are measured to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard, calculated at 5% coverage per page. If you print with heavy coverage —tables, charts or images— the actual yield drops a little below that figure.

Do you need to reset the counter when changing the toner?

On most ECOSYS models, no. The printer detects the new cartridge and resets the counter on its own when you close the front cover. If the toner warning is still showing after the swap, turn the machine off and on and it clears. You don't need special chips or any software to install.
