What it is

What is a compatible ink cartridge?

A compatible ink cartridge is an inkjet cartridge built by an independent supplier (non-OEM), engineered to be interchangeable with the original cartridge. Unlike toner (which goes in laser printers), ink cartridges run in inkjet machines · DeskJet, OfficeJet, PIXMA, WorkForce and similar models. Where a product page states a page yield, check its declared test protocol: ISO/IEC 24711.

How to choose

How do I identify the right compatible ink cartridge for my printer?

Three options: by cartridge reference, by printer model, or by visual recognition. If you have any doubt, send us a WhatsApp with the exact brand and model.

By cartridge reference

Check the code on your current cartridge · e.g. HP 304XL, Canon PG-540, Brother LC3213, Epson 33XL. This is the fastest path.

By printer model

Use the search box with the exact model · e.g. HP DeskJet 2710e, Canon PIXMA TS3450, Epson WF-2810, Brother DCP-J772DW.

By visual recognition

Compare the listing photo with your cartridge.

Printer care

Best practices for inkjet printers running compatible ink

Inkjet printers (DeskJet, OfficeJet, PIXMA, WorkForce) have their own quirks · regardless of whether you run OEM or compatible ink. These habits extend the life of the machine and the quality of every print.

Print at least once a week

Inkjet ink dries out when the printer sits idle for too long. Print at least one test page each week to keep the printheads from clogging.

Clean the printheads regularly

Inkjet printers have a built-in printhead cleaning routine in the menu. Run it every 2-3 months or whenever you spot white lines on your prints.

Replace only the empty cartridge

If your printer takes individual cartridges (BK/C/M/Y), swap only the one that's empty · there's no need to change the whole set.

Store cartridges sealed

Keep your compatible cartridges in their original packaging until you fit them. Recommended shelf life: 24 months from manufacture.

Frequently asked questions

What people ask about compatible ink cartridges

What's the difference between an ink cartridge and a toner?

An ink cartridge holds liquid ink and goes in inkjet printers (DeskJet, OfficeJet, PIXMA, WorkForce). Toner is a heat-fused powder used in laser printers (LaserJet, i-SENSYS, Brother HL/MFC). The two are not interchangeable. Each technology has its strengths: inkjet delivers better photo quality and a lower hardware cost; laser delivers a lower black-and-white cost per page and faster print speeds.

Does using compatible ink cartridges void my printer's warranty?

Your Startoner consumable is covered by a three-year legal conformity guarantee. Printer coverage is governed by the manufacturer’s terms and may exclude damage caused by consumables. Using a compatible cartridge does not by itself establish the cause of a fault; keep your documentation and contact us if a problem occurs.

Why do compatible ink cartridges dry out? Does this happen with OEM too?

Yes, this also happens with OEM · it's a property of inkjet ink , not of the cartridge. Liquid ink can dry on the printheads if the printer sits idle for too long. To prevent it: (1) Print at least once a week. (2) Run the printhead cleaning cycle from the printer menu every 2-3 months. (3) Keep the cartridges sealed in their packaging until you use them.

Do compatible cartridges work in EcoTank or ink tank printers?

EcoTank (Epson), InkTank (HP), MegaTank (Canon) and InkBenefit (Brother) printers do NOT take cartridges · they run on refillable ink bottles. If you have an EcoTank, you need compatible ink bottles, not cartridges. We stock compatible EcoTank bottles in the matching category. Always check whether your printer takes cartridges before placing an order.

What do I do if my printer says "non-original cartridge"?

It's an information notice, not an error. The printer will keep running normally. To dismiss the notice: (1) Turn the printer off and back on. (2) Accept the on-screen prompt ("Continue with non-original cartridge"). Each brand has a slightly different process · check our brand-specific pages (HP, Brother, Canon, Epson) for detailed instructions.

How many pages does a compatible ink cartridge yield?

It depends on the model and on how much you print. A few examples: HP 304 ~120 pages / HP 304XL ~300 pages; Canon PG-540 ~180 pages / PG-540XL ~600 pages; Epson 33 ~300 pages / 33XL ~530 pages; Brother LC3211 ~200 pages / LC3213 ~400 pages. Where a product page states a page yield, check its declared test protocol: ISO/IEC 24711.

What warranty do you offer on compatible ink cartridges?

3-year warranty in total: 3-year legal guarantee (Spanish law RDL 1/2007 art. 120 + EU Directive 2019/771). If a cartridge fails due to a manufacturing defect, we replace it free of charge. To claim, contact us with your order number and a description of the issue.
