Compatible HP 913 ink cartridge: usage, installation and savings guide | Star Toner

Actualizado 18 julio 2026

The compatible HP 913 ink cartridge is the direct choice for reducing the cost per page on PageWide-technology printers without compromising print quality. Manufactured under ISO 9001 quality control, it offers an alternative to the original consumable at a price of €24.99. In this guide we explain which machines it works with, how to install it, what to do if the printer does not recognise it and what real savings you can expect.

What it is and which printers it works with

The HP 913 is an ink cartridge designed for the PageWide range, HP's technology that prints with a fixed page-wide printhead instead of a moving carriage. Our compatible cartridge is valid specifically for these models:

  • HP PageWide 352dw
  • HP PageWide 377dw
  • HP PageWide Pro 452dn and HP PageWide Pro 452dw
  • HP PageWide Pro 477dn and HP PageWide Pro 477dw
  • HP PageWide Pro MFP 477

If your machine is not on this list, it is not the right consumable. Always check the model printed on the label at the back of the printer before buying.

How to install it and what to do if it "does not recognise the cartridge"

Installation is identical to that of an original cartridge: open the front ink door, wait for the carriage to stop, remove the old cartridge by pulling it out gently and click the new one into place. Remember to remove the protective seal before fitting it and do not touch the metal contacts.

If, after installation, a warning appears about a cartridge not recognised, used or counterfeit, it does not necessarily mean the cartridge is faulty. Try these steps in order:

  • Remove the cartridge, carefully clean the contacts with a dry, lint-free cloth and reinsert it.
  • Switch the printer off, wait a minute and switch it back on to force a chip reset.
  • If the warning persists, accept the message: many printers allow you to keep printing by pressing "OK" or "Continue".

Many of these warnings come from the firmware updates that HP releases periodically. If you want to understand why this happens and how to avoid it, read our guide on why HP firmware blocks cartridges.

Yield and savings compared with the original

A well-manufactured compatible cartridge delivers an ink density and a page count comparable to the original in office use: crisp text, defined graphics and stable colours. The difference is in the price, not in the result on paper.

The savings compared with the branded consumable are usually considerable, especially on PageWide machines, which are designed for high print volumes where ink spend is the most significant factor. Frequently asked questions

Does the compatible HP 913 cartridge work in my HP PageWide Pro 477dw?

Yes. This cartridge is valid for the HP PageWide Pro 477dn and 477dw, as well as the 352dw, 377dw, Pro 452dn, Pro 452dw and PageWide Pro MFP 477 models. Check the model on the label at the back of your printer.

My printer says the cartridge is not recognised, what do I do?

Remove the cartridge, clean the contacts with a dry cloth and reinsert it. If the warning continues, switch the printer off and on again. In most cases you can keep printing by accepting the message. It is usually caused by HP firmware updates, not by a defect in the cartridge.

Does it print with the same quality as the original HP cartridge?

In office use for text, graphics and colour, the result on paper is comparable to the original, thanks to its manufacture under ISO 9001 quality control. The main difference is the price.

Does the compatible cartridge come with a warranty?

Yes. All our compatible cartridges are covered by the legal warranty in force in Spain for this type of consumable, in addition to our ISO 9001 quality control.
