The letters at the end of the model only indicate the machine's connectivity and functions, they don't change the consumable: the W means WiFi (wireless connection), the D means duplex (automatic double-sided printing) and, when it appears, the N indicates a wired network connection (Ethernet). Being the higher-capacity version, it's the most cost-effective option if you print regularly: you reduce the cost per page and change the cartridge much less often. Bear in mind that in these Brothers the toner and the drum are separate parts; the drum lasts many more cycles and is only replaced every several toners, so day to day what you replace is this cartridge.

No. Under article 120 of RLD 1/2007 (the General Law for the Defence of Consumers and Users), using compatible consumables does not void your machine's warranty.
