What toner does the HP LaserJet Pro M402d need, plus 6 compatible models

Actualizado 18 julio 2026

Looking for toner for your HP LaserJet Pro M402 or MFP M426? The cartridge you need is the HP CF226A (26A), with a yield of 3,100 pages, or its high-capacity version, the HP CF226X (26X), which reaches up to 9,000 pages. Our compatible versions offer the same print quality for a fraction of the original price. See the compatible CF226A toner or the high-capacity CF226X.

Is it compatible with your printer?

The CF226A (26A) toner and its higher-yield sibling CF226X (26X) are the consumables fitted by the whole LaserJet Pro M402 range and the MFP M426 multifunction series. If you have any of these seven models, this is your cartridge:

  • HP LaserJet Pro M402d
  • HP LaserJet Pro M402dn
  • HP LaserJet Pro M402dw
  • HP LaserJet Pro M402n
  • HP LaserJet Pro MFP M426dw
  • HP LaserJet Pro MFP M426fdn
  • HP LaserJet Pro MFP M426fdw

The letters accompanying the model indicate each machine's functions and don't affect the toner's compatibility: the d means automatic double-sided printing (duplex), the n a wired network connection, the w a wireless connection (Wi-Fi) and the f the fax functions typical of multifunction machines (MFP). Whatever combination you have: they all use exactly the same cartridge. If you're not sure of your model, you can confirm it with our printer finder or check the guide how to know which toner your printer needs.

The consumable you need and what it yields

You have two options on the same reference, both with ISO 9001 quality certification and measured according to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard for monochrome toner:

Which to choose? If you print occasionally, the CF226A does the job easily. If your machine works daily or you share the printer in an office, the CF226X works out much more cost-effective: it yields almost triple the pages, so you change the cartridge much less often and the cost per page drops notably. You can dig deeper into each reference in its dedicated guide: CF226A guide and CF226X guide.

How much printing costs you

The advantage of a compatible toner is simple: you get the same page yield and the same print quality as the original, but you pay a fraction of the price. A compatible CF226X that yields 9,000 pages lets you print for months with a much lower outlay than the branded cartridge, without giving up anything. That saving is even more evident when you multiply it by the toner changes over the year.

To see the real saving based on your print volume, use our savings calculator: you enter how many pages you print and it shows you the difference compared to the original. Check the current price of each cartridge on its page: CF226A and CF226X.

Frequently asked questions

Are the CF226A and the CF226X suitable for my HP LaserJet Pro M402 or MFP M426?

Yes. Both references are compatible with the whole M402 range (M402d, M402dn, M402dw and M402n) and with the M426 multifunction series (M426dw, M426fdn and M426fdw). All these models share the same cartridge, so you only have to decide between the standard capacity (CF226A) and the high capacity (CF226X).

How many pages does each cartridge print?

The CF226A (26A) yields 3,100 pages and the CF226X (26X) yields 9,000 pages. Both values are measured according to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard, the same standard original manufacturers use, with a reference coverage of 5% per page. The real yield varies according to how much text or graphics you print.

Does using a compatible toner void my printer's warranty?

No. According to article 120 of Royal Legislative Decree 1/2007, using compatible consumables does not void your printer's warranty. The manufacturer cannot force you to buy only cartridges of its brand. You can read more about this point and about the reliability of these products in are compatible cartridges reliable? and on our warranty page.

How long does shipping take?

We ship within 24-48 hours across mainland Spain and shipping is free from €50. This way you can have your toner ready in a couple of days with no added costs if you complete your order.
