Compatible Brother TN2510XL toner: installation, chip reset and compatibility

Updated

Where a product page states a page yield, check its declared test protocol: ISO/IEC 19752.

What it is and which printers it fits

The TN2510XL is the XL (high-capacity) version of the TN2510. It is a toner cartridge, not a drum: in these machines the drum (imaging unit) is a separate part with a far longer service life. This consumable is compatible with the following models:

  • Brother DCP-L2620DW, DCP-L2627DWE, DCP-L2627DWXL, DCP-L2660DW, DCP-L2665DW
  • Brother HL-L2400DW, HL-L2400DWE, HL-L2402D, HL-L2445DW, HL-L2447DW, HL-L2865DW
  • Brother MFC-L2800DW, MFC-L2802DN, MFC-L2827DW, MFC-L2827DWXL, MFC-L2860DW, MFC-L2860DWE, MFC-L2960DW, MFC-L2980DW

If your machine appears in this list, the cartridge fits and works without adapters. When it's time to change the drum as well, you can do so with the compatible Brother DR-2000 / DR-350 drum, which yields thousands of pages before needing replacement.

How to install it and what to do if it "doesn't recognise the cartridge"

Browse the available products and check compatibility, declared yield and price on each product page.

  • Open the front cover and remove the drum + toner assembly.
  • Separate the used toner from the drum by lowering the green locking lever.
  • Remove the protective seal from the new toner and gently rock it from side to side to distribute the powder.
  • Fit the new toner into the drum until it clicks, reinsert the assembly and close the cover.

These Brother printers use a chip that counts the pages. On most models in this series the counter resets automatically when a new cartridge is inserted. If, after installation, a toner low warning or a "replace toner" message appears, on many machines it's enough to open and close the front cover to force a new reading. If your model has a manual reset mode via the panel (maintenance menus using the arrow or asterisk key depending on the machine), check your printer's manual for the exact procedure for your reference. We don't make up key combinations: each model has its own, and it comes documented by the manufacturer.

Yield and savings versus the original

With 2,500 pages per cartridge, the TN2510XL offers the same autonomy as the original high-capacity version, so the cost per page drops significantly as you pay much less for the same number of prints. The real difference lies not only in the purchase price, but in what you print over the course of the year: we explain it with figures in the real cost of printing. If you have doubts about the quality compared with the branded cartridge, take a look at our original vs compatible printed side by side comparison.

Why buy it at Star Toner

Your Startoner consumable is covered by a three-year legal conformity guarantee. Printer coverage is governed by the manufacturer’s terms and may exclude damage caused by consumables. Using a compatible cartridge does not by itself establish the cause of a fault; keep your documentation and contact us if a problem occurs.

Frequently asked questions

Will the compatible TN2510XL toner work with my Brother HL-L2400DW or MFC-L2800DW?

Yes. It is compatible with the HL-L2400DW and MFC-L2800DW, as well as the DCP-L2620DW, DCP-L2660DW, HL-L2445DW, MFC-L2827DW and the rest of the L2400, L2600 and L2800 series models listed on the product page.

How many pages does the TN2510XL print?

It yields 2,500 pages measured to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard (5% coverage). Actual use depends on how much ink per page your documents require.

My printer says it doesn't recognise the cartridge, what do I do?

It usually resolves by opening and closing the front cover to force the chip to be re-read. If it persists, check that the seal has been removed and that the toner has clicked into place in the drum; some models allow you to reset the counter from the panel's maintenance menu.

Does using a compatible toner void my Brother warranty?

No. In the European Union the manufacturer cannot void the warranty for using compatible consumables. You'll find the details in our article on the legal warranty of compatible cartridges.
