Actualizado 18 julio 2026Share
Looking for toner for your Canon i-SENSYS in the LBP220 or MF440 series? The cartridge you need is the Canon 057. Our compatible version costs €35.98 (VAT incl.), prints 3,100 ISO pages and works out to 1.16 cents/page: three to five times cheaper than the branded original, with the same solid black and ISO 9001 certification.
Is it compatible with your printer?
The Canon 057 toner fits the entire i-SENSYS family across the LBP220 and MF440 series. If your machine is on this list, this is your cartridge:
- Canon i-SENSYS LBP223dw
- Canon i-SENSYS LBP226dw
- Canon i-SENSYS LBP228x
- Canon i-SENSYS MF443dw
- Canon i-SENSYS MF445dw
- Canon i-SENSYS MF446x
- Canon i-SENSYS MF449x
- Canon i-SENSYS MF453dw
- Canon i-SENSYS MF455dw
Not sure exactly which reference your machine takes? We walk you through it step by step in how to know which toner your printer needs. On these models, the reference is printed on the cartridge itself and on the label inside the machine.
The cartridge you need
All of these printers use a high-density monochrome toner. Our direct recommendation:
- Compatible Canon 057 Toner · 3,100 pages · ISO 9001 — €35.98 (VAT incl.), with chip included and in stock.
The yield is 3,100 pages at 5% coverage (ISO/IEC 19752 standard), the same measurement standard used by the original cartridge, so the comparison is fair. It comes with the chip pre-installed: the printer recognises it with no extra setup and the level counter works normally.
If your office prints a lot, do the maths with our guide to cost per copy and how to lower it in the office: at 1.16 cents per page, the difference versus the original adds up print after print.
Comparison: yield, price and cost per page
| Cartridge | Yield (ISO pages) | Price (VAT incl.) | Cost/page | vs original |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Canon 057 compatible (Star Toner) | 3,100 pages | €35.98 | 1.16 cents/page | 3–5× cheaper |
| Canon 057 original (OEM) | ~3,100 pages | Brand price (much higher) | Several times higher | Benchmark |
Cost-per-page calculation: €35.98 ÷ 3,100 pages = €0.0116, that is 1.16 cents per page. The original cartridge offers a similar yield, but at a much higher retail price, so its cost per page multiplies. The same pages, quite a bit less money.
How do I know it's time to change the toner?
Your Canon i-SENSYS warns you before it leaves you stranded. These are the most common signs:
- An on-screen message such as "Toner low" or "Prepare cartridge".
- Light patches, vertical streaks or a washed-out grey where you used to have solid black.
- Repeated lines or marks that won't go away even after cleaning.
A trick that squeezes a few more pages out of the cartridge: take it out and rock it gently from side to side (never vertically) to redistribute the toner. When quality stops holding up, it's time to replace it.
Installation and counter
Swapping it takes about a minute: open the front cover, remove the spent cartridge, peel the seal off the new one, shake it a little horizontally and slot it in until it clicks. On the LBP220 and MF440 series, the chip resets the counter to zero automatically when it detects the new cartridge, so there's nothing to reset by hand. If a warning persists after the swap, switch the printer off and on so it re-reads the chip.
Compatible or original? The real difference
A well-made compatible toner prints just as sharply as the branded one for a fraction of the price. So you can see it with your own eyes, we ran the real test in original vs compatible toner: we printed them side by side. And if you're worried about your printer's warranty, you can relax: using compatible consumables is completely legal and doesn't void it. We explain it with the law in hand in the legal warranty for compatible cartridges in Spain.

Frequently asked questions
Will the compatible 057 toner work in my Canon MF449x or LBP226dw?
Yes. The Canon 057 is the cartridge for the whole i-SENSYS family across the LBP220 and MF440 series, including the LBP226dw and the MF449x. It also fits the LBP223dw, LBP228x, MF443dw, MF445dw, MF446x, MF453dw and MF455dw. If your model is on that list, this is your toner.
How many pages does it print and how much does each one cost?
It yields 3,100 pages measured to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard (5% coverage), the same standard as the original. At €35.98 including VAT, the cost per page is 1.16 cents. For everyday office documents, that means quite a few months of printing before you buy again.
Does it come with a chip? Will the printer recognise it?
Yes, it comes with the chip pre-installed. Your Canon i-SENSYS detects it instantly and the toner-level indicator works normally, just like with an original cartridge. You don't need to reset counters or perform any manual steps: fit it, close the cover and print.
If I use a compatible, do I lose the printer's warranty?
No. European and Spanish law protects your right to use compatible consumables without losing the equipment's warranty; the manufacturer can't void it for that reason alone. We spell it out with the legal basis in our article on the warranty for compatible cartridges. On top of that, our toner is ISO 9001 quality.
Can you tell the difference from the original?
For office black, text and graphics, no. Density and sharpness are equivalent, which is why we printed them side by side in an open test. The real difference is in your wallet: the same 3,100 pages for three to five times less money than the branded cartridge.
Save without cutting quality
If you have a Canon i-SENSYS in the LBP220 or MF440 series, the compatible Canon 057 toner is the logical choice: €35.98, 3,100 pages and 1.16 cents per copy, with chip and warranty. Have it ready before your current one runs out and keep your work uninterrupted.
