A compatible ink cartridge is an inkjet cartridge built by an independent supplier (non-OEM), engineered to be interchangeable with the original cartridge. Unlike toner (which goes in laser printers), ink cartridges run in inkjet machines · DeskJet, OfficeJet, PIXMA, WorkForce and similar models. What people ask about compatible ink cartridges

What's the difference between an ink cartridge and a toner?

An ink cartridge holds liquid ink and goes in inkjet printers (DeskJet, OfficeJet, PIXMA, WorkForce). Toner is a heat-fused powder used in laser printers (LaserJet, i-SENSYS, Brother HL/MFC). The two are not interchangeable. Each technology has its strengths: inkjet delivers better photo quality and a lower hardware cost; laser delivers a lower black-and-white cost per page and faster print speeds.

Does using compatible ink cartridges void my printer's warranty?

No. Under Directive (EU) 2019/771 and the Consumer Rights Act 2015, you have the right to use third-party consumables without losing the manufacturer's statutory warranty. The manufacturer could only invalidate the warranty if it proved physical damage to the equipment caused by the consumable, which doesn't happen with ISO 9001 certified cartridges.

Why do compatible ink cartridges dry out? Does this happen with OEM too?

Yes, this also happens with OEM · it's a property of inkjet ink, not of the cartridge. Liquid ink can dry on the printheads if the printer sits idle for too long. To prevent it: (1) Print at least once a week. (2) Run the printhead cleaning cycle from the printer menu every 2-3 months. (3) Keep the cartridges sealed in their packaging until you use them. Certified compatible cartridges last just as long as OEMs under normal use.

Do compatible cartridges work in EcoTank or ink tank printers?

EcoTank (Epson), InkTank (HP), MegaTank (Canon) and InkBenefit (Brother) printers do NOT take cartridges · they run on refillable ink bottles. If you have an EcoTank, you need compatible ink bottles, not cartridges. We stock compatible EcoTank bottles in the matching category. Always check whether your printer takes cartridges before placing an order.

What do I do if my printer says "non-original cartridge"?

It's an information notice, not an error. The printer will keep running normally. To dismiss the notice: (1) Turn the printer off and back on. (2) Accept the on-screen prompt ("Continue with non-original cartridge"). Each brand has a slightly different process · check our brand-specific pages (HP, Brother, Canon, Epson) for detailed instructions.

How many pages does a compatible ink cartridge yield?

It depends on the model and on how much you print. Cartridges certified to ISO 24711 deliver the same page count as the equivalent OEM at 5% coverage.
