Compatible HP GT51/GT52 ink bottle: installation, reset and compatibility

Actualizado 18 julio 2026

HP refillable-reservoir printers (Ink Tank, Smart Tank and DeskJet GT) use bulk ink bottles instead of printhead cartridges. The compatible HP GT51/GT52 ink bottle is the direct replacement for these systems, with an approximate yield of 5,000 pages per bottle and manufacturing to the ISO 9001 quality standard. Here we explain what it is, how to install it and what real savings you can expect.

What it is and which printers it works with

The GT51 reference usually corresponds to black ink (higher volume) and GT52 to the cyan, magenta and yellow colours. It is not a cartridge: you refill the printer's reservoir directly from the bottle. It is compatible with these models:

  • HP DeskJet GT 5810, 5811, 5820 and 5821
  • HP Ink Tank 115, 315, 318, 319, 410, 415 and 419
  • HP Ink Tank Wireless 410 and 415
  • HP Smart Tank 500, 505, 508, 511, 514, 515, 516, 517 and 519

Always check the reference printed on your original bottle or on the reservoir label before buying. You can see the full listing on the product page.

How to install it and what to do if it "doesn't recognise the ink"

One advantage of these systems is that the bulk ink does not carry a chip per bottle as conventional cartridges do, so you will rarely see the typical "cartridge not recognised" warning. Installation is straightforward:

  • Open the reservoir lid for the corresponding colour.
  • Remove the bottle's seal and slot it into the reservoir nozzle. The anti-drip design releases the ink as you connect it.
  • Let the reservoir fill up to the maximum line, without going over it.
  • Close the lid and confirm the ink level on the panel or in the HP Smart app if your model asks for it.

If, after refilling, the printer reports low quality or lines in the printout, run a printhead cleaning from the maintenance menu and wait a few hours for the ink to stabilise in the system. Yield and savings versus the original

This bottle is manufactured to ISO 9001 and offers an estimated yield of 5,000 pages, in line with what you would expect from a reservoir system designed for high volume. In practice, the cost per page falls noticeably compared with original ink, which is precisely the buying argument for these printers.

Why buy it from Star Toner

We sell compatible consumables, not OEM, and we say so clearly. The compatible HP GT51/GT52 ink bottle costs €2.48 and meets the ISO 9001 quality standard. Buying it from us includes the Spanish statutory guarantee and shipping from Spain.

Using compatible consumables does not void your printer's warranty: we explain your rights in the statutory guarantee for compatible cartridges. And to check that the colours come out correctly after the first refill, download our CMYK test page.

Frequently asked questions

Does the compatible GT51/GT52 bottle work with my HP Smart Tank or Ink Tank?

Yes, it is compatible with the HP DeskJet GT 5810/5820, HP Ink Tank 115/315/415, Ink Tank Wireless 410/415 and HP Smart Tank 500 to 519 series. Check the reference on your reservoir label before buying.

What is the difference between GT51 and GT52?

GT51 normally corresponds to black ink, of higher volume, and GT52 to the cyan, magenta and yellow colours. Each one refills its corresponding reservoir in the printer.

Will my printer recognise the compatible ink?

These systems use bulk ink with no chip per bottle, so the cartridge-not-recognised warning does not usually appear. If you see low quality after refilling, run a printhead cleaning from the maintenance menu.

Does using compatible ink void the printer's warranty?

No. Spanish law protects your right to use compatible consumables without losing the equipment's warranty. The bottle itself also includes a statutory guarantee when you buy it from Star Toner.
