Compatible Brother TN2420XL toner: installation, chip reset and savings

The compatible Brother TN2420XL toner is a high-capacity cartridge with an approximate yield of 4,500 pages (measured to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard, at 5% coverage) and manufactured to the ISO 9001 quality standard. It is the direct alternative to the original TN-2420 for anyone who prints daily and doesn't want to pay the brand-name price.

What it is and which printers it fits

This is a monochrome black toner cartridge designed for the Brother L2000-series laser range. It is compatible with the following models:

• Brother DCP-L2510D, DCP-L2530DW, DCP-L2550DN
• Brother HL-L2310D, HL-L2350DW, HL-L2370DN, HL-L2370DW, HL-L2375DW

In these printers the toner and the drum are separate parts: the toner holds the printing powder and runs out first, while the drum (imaging unit) lasts much longer. If your machine also asks you to replace the drum, the compatible Brother DR-2000 / DR-350 drum is available, with a service life of around 12,000 pages.

How to install it and what to do if it "won't recognise the cartridge"

Installation is straightforward: open the front cover, take out the drum + toner assembly, separate the used toner by pressing the green locking lever, click the new TN2420XL into the drum until you hear it click, and reinsert the complete assembly.

If the printer shows a message such as "toner not recognised" or keeps displaying the level of the previous cartridge, this is almost always resolved by a counter reset. On many models in this series the procedure is: with the front cover open, press and hold the power button or access the service menu until the display lets you reset the toner level. The exact method varies by model, so check your printer's manual before forcing any step.
