HP 205A CF530A compatible black toner: installation and savings | Star Toner

Actualizado 18 julio 2026

The HP 205A CF530A compatible toner is a black colour cartridge with a yield of 1,100 pages under the ISO/IEC standard and manufactured under ISO 9001 quality certification. It is designed to replace the original black consumable in the 205A series without sacrificing print sharpness on office documents.

What it is and which printers it works with

This cartridge is designed specifically for the desktop HP Color LaserJet Pro range. It is compatible with the following models:

  • HP Color LaserJet Pro M154a
  • HP Color LaserJet Pro M154nw
  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180n
  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M180nw
  • HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M181fw

If your machine appears on this list, the CF530A fits without adapters: same dimensions, same feed system and an integrated chip for communication with the printer. If you are not sure which series you have, check the reference on the label at the back of the machine before buying.

How to install it and what to do if it "doesn't recognise the cartridge"

Installation is identical to that of an original cartridge: switch off the printer, open the front cover, remove the used black cartridge, take the new one out of its packaging, remove the protective seal and slide the CF530A into its rail until it clicks into place. Close the cover and switch on.

If on start-up you see a warning about a cartridge not recognised, non-genuine or chip error, try the following in order:

  • Switch off the printer, wait around 30 seconds and switch it back on to force the chip to be re-read.
  • Remove the cartridge and carefully clean the gold chip contacts with a dry, lint-free cloth; then refit it.
  • Accept the message offering to continue with a non-HP consumable: it is an informational notice, not a fault.

Many of these warnings come from firmware updates that restrict non-original cartridges. We explain how this works and how to avoid it in our article on HP firmware that blocks cartridges.

Yield and savings versus the original

With a 1,100-page ISO yield, this CF530A offers the same nominal running time as the series' original black cartridge, so the comparison is direct: same number of pages, noticeably lower cost. The saving per page is the compelling argument, especially if you print in colour frequently on an M154 or an MFP M180/M181.
