What it is

What is a compatible Brother drum?

The Brother drum (imaging unit, photoconductor or OPC) is the cylinder that fixes the toner onto the paper inside your laser printer. It is not the toner or the ink: it is a separate part that is replaced every several cartridges.

The drum is not the toner

The toner is the powder that prints; the drum is the cylinder that transfers it. In most Brother lasers they are two independent consumables, so you can replace just the drum without changing the entire cartridge.

Lasts much longer

A drum yields between 10.000 and 50.000 pages, versus the 1.000-3.000 of a toner. That is why you change it far less often: only when lines, repeated marks or the "replace drum" alert appear.

Real savings per page

Replacing only the imaging unit, instead of an all-in-one cartridge, drastically reduces your cost per copy.

Product information and compatibility

Same long-life OPC photoconductor, same print sharpness as the branded drum, no surprises.

How to choose

How do I know which Brother drum I need?

Getting the right imaging unit is simple: you just need to look at the part code or your machine's model. Here are the three ways to find the correct reference the first time.

By drum reference

It is the most reliable method. Look for the code printed on the imaging unit itself or on its box: DR-2300, DR2400, DR-421CL, DR243, DR2510, DR1050… Enter that code in the search bar and you will see the exact drum.

By printer model

If you do not have the box handy, check your Brother model (for example HL-L2350DW, DCP-L3550CDW or MFC-L8690CDW) and we will tell you the matching imaging unit. Each listing shows the machines it covers.

Drum vs toner

Remember: the drum is not the toner. If your printer prints faint or "runs out" quickly, you probably need toner; if lines, dots or repeated marks appear at regular intervals, it is the drum that needs changing.

Trust

Product information and compatibility

Your Startoner consumable is covered by a three-year legal conformity guarantee. Printer coverage is governed by the manufacturer’s terms and may exclude damage caused by consumables. Using a compatible cartridge does not by itself establish the cause of a fault; keep your documentation and contact us if a problem occurs.

Batch traceability

3-year warranty

All our Brother drums are covered for 3 years. Using a third-party consumable does not invalidate your machine's warranty, and if a unit turns out defective we replace it at no cost.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about compatible Brother drums

What is the difference between the Brother drum and toner?

The toner is the powder that forms the image; the drum (imaging unit or photoconductor) is the cylinder that transfers that powder to the paper. In most Brother lasers they are separate parts: you change the toner frequently and the drum only every several cartridges.

When should I change the drum in my Brother printer?

When the printer shows the "replace drum" alert or when vertical lines, dots or marks appear repeating at regular intervals on the page. A drum lasts between 10.000 and 50.000 pages depending on the model, many more than a toner.

Does using a compatible drum void the printer's warranty?

No. Directive (EU) 2019/771 and RDL 1/2007 (art. 120) protect your right to use third-party consumables without losing your machine's warranty. Plus, our drums include their own 3-year warranty.

How do I know which Brother drum reference I need?

Look at the code printed on the imaging unit or on its box (DR-2300, DR2400, DR-421CL, DR243, DR2510…) or check your printer model. Each listing details the compatible machines; if you have any doubts, message us on WhatsApp.
