What it is

What is a compatible Canon drum?

The drum (imaging unit, photoconductor or OPC) is the cylinder that transfers the toner onto the paper inside your Canon laser printer. It's not the toner: the toner is the powder that runs out quickly, whereas the drum lasts many thousands of pages.

Not the toner

The drum is the imaging unit that you change every several toner cartridges. Replacing only the drum, rather than a whole cartridge, is what makes maintaining your Canon device cheaper.

How to choose

How do I know which Canon drum I need?

There are three quick ways to get the right imaging unit. With any of them we'll confirm compatibility before you buy.

By drum reference

Look for the code printed on the used drum or on its box: CRG-049, CRG-051, C-EXV14, C-EXV42 or C-EXV50. It's the most reliable route, because the same Canon printer can use a drum and toner with different references.

By printer model

If you only have the device model (for example an i-SENSYS or an imageRUNNER), tell us and we'll cross-check its data sheet to point you to the exact imaging unit and its page yield.

Drum vs toner

Remember that the drum is not the toner. If your prints come out with streaks or shadows repeating at regular intervals, it's usually the drum; if they come out faint or washed out, it's normally the toner. If in doubt, we'll help you on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about compatible Canon drums

What's the difference between the Canon drum and toner?

The drum is the imaging unit (the photoconductor cylinder or OPC) that transfers the toner onto the paper, whereas the toner is the powder that forms the print. On many Canon laser printers they are separate consumables: the toner runs out in 1.000-3.000 pages and the drum lasts between 10.000 and 80.000, so it's changed far less often.

When should I change my Canon's drum?

When defects appear that repeat at regular intervals on the page (streaks, dots or shadows at set distances) or when the printer warns that the drum has reached the end of its life. Unlike the toner, the drum is replaced only every several cartridges, depending on the yield of your reference.

Does a compatible drum void the printer's warranty?

Your Startoner consumable is covered by a three-year legal conformity guarantee. Printer coverage is governed by the manufacturer’s terms and may exclude damage caused by consumables. Using a compatible cartridge does not by itself establish the cause of a fault; keep your documentation and contact us if a problem occurs.

How do I know the exact reference of the drum I need?

Look at the code printed on the used drum or on its box (for example CRG-049, CRG-051, C-EXV14, C-EXV42 or C-EXV50). If you only have the printer model, message us on WhatsApp and we'll confirm the correct imaging unit.

How long does a Canon drum last?

It depends on the reference: in this selection they range from the 12.000 pages of the CRG-049 up to the 60.000 of the C-EXV50, via the CRG-051 (23.000), the C-EXV14 (50.000) and the C-EXV42 (55.000).
