The consumable you need and how much it yields

These Brother printers use a two-piece system: the toner (the powder ink, which runs out quickly) and the drum (the roller that transfers the powder onto the paper, which lasts much longer). You need both, but they are bought and replaced separately.

• Brother TN450 / TN2220 toner: yields 2,600 pages measured according to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard (the yield standard for monochrome toner, based on 5% page coverage). This is the part you change when your prints start coming out faint. Buy the compatible TN2220 toner.

The practical rule is simple: you replace the toner frequently and the drum only every few toners, when the printer itself tells you to (a "Replace Drum" or "Cambiar tambor" message) or when you see repeated streaks and marks on every page. Does this compatible toner work in all the models on the list?

Yes. The TN450 / TN2220 toner and the DR420 / DR450 drum are the official consumables for this entire Brother family (the HL-22xx, DCP-70xx and MFC-72xx/73xx/74xx/78xx series), so they fit and work in all 11 models listed, regardless of the trailing letters (D, N, DW, DN...). How many pages does each consumable print?

The toner yields 2,600 pages according to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard (based on the reference coverage of 5% per page). The drum yields 12,000 pages, so it usually lasts several toners before it needs replacing. Your actual yield will depend on how much ink covers each document: dense text or shaded areas use more.

3-year Startoner consumable warranty

No. Under article 120 of Royal Legislative Decree 1/2007 (the General Law for the Defence of Consumers and Users), using compatible consumables does not void your equipment's warranty. The manufacturer could only refuse a repair if it proves that a specific consumable caused the damage, something that does not happen with products manufactured under quality control.
