This series works with a separate toner and drum system, so it's worth telling each part apart clearly:

• MLT-D116S toner: this is the printing powder consumed with every page. Our compatible version yields 1,200 pages measured to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard (5% standard coverage). It's the consumable you'll replace most often.
• MLT-R116 drum: this is the imaging unit that transfers the toner onto the paper. It yields 9,000 pages, so a single drum lasts the equivalent of several toners before it needs replacing.

In practice, you'll change the toner several times per drum: the MLT-R116 handles many more pages than the cartridge, which is why you don't need to replace it every time. No. Article 120 of RDL 1/2007 (Ley General para la Defensa de los Consumidores y Usuarios) protects your right to use compatible consumables: fitting a compatible toner or drum does not void the warranty on your Samsung. The manufacturer could only reject a claim if it proves that the consumable directly caused the fault: something that doesn't happen with a product made under quality control.
