Compatible Brother LC12 ink cartridge: installation, chip reset and savings

Updated

With an approximate yield of 600 pages , it is designed for users and offices that print daily and want to reduce their cost per page without changing printer.

What it is and which printers it works with

It is a compatible cartridge, not a Brother-branded replacement. This is a new product, not recycled, designed to fit and work just like the original in the print carriage. It is valid for the following models:

  • Brother MFC-J5910CDW
  • Brother MFC-J6510DW
  • Brother MFC-J6710DW
  • Brother MFC-J6910DW
  • Brother MFC-J825DW
  • Brother MFC-J835DW
  • Brother MFC-J430W
  • Brother MFC-J625DW
  • Brother MFC-J280W

If your device uses more recent cartridges, take a look at the compatible Brother LC3213 ink or the compatible Brother LC3217 ink. For older models there is also the compatible LC11 series.

How to install it and what to do if it "won't recognise the cartridge"

Before inserting it, remove the protective strip from the ink outlet without touching the contacts.

If a cartridge not detected or "cartridge not recognised" message appears, it can usually be resolved as follows:

  • Remove the cartridge and refit it, making sure it clicks into place.
  • Carefully clean the metal contacts with a dry cloth.
  • Turn the printer off for a few seconds and back on to force the chip to be re-read.
  • If the device persists, remove it and leave it out for a couple of minutes before reinserting it; this resets the ink level reading.

In most cases the chip is detected first time. Bear in mind that the ink level shown on screen is only a guide: keep printing until the quality genuinely drops.

Yield and savings compared with the original

The compatible LC12 ink delivers crisp text and stable colour on documents, forms and everyday photography. The main argument is financial: for each page printed the cost is noticeably lower than with the branded consumable, which in a home or office that prints frequently adds up to significant savings over the course of the year.

Using a compatible cartridge does not by itself establish the cause of a fault; keep your documentation and contact us if a problem occurs.
