Compatible Brother LC123 ink cartridge: installation and savings guide

Actualizado 18 julio 2026

The compatible Brother LC123 ink cartridge is an alternative manufactured to the ISO 9001 standard that replaces the original consumable in Brother inkjet multifunction machines. Each cartridge delivers an approximate yield of 600 pages (measured to the ISO standard), enough for home and small-office use. In this guide we explain which printers it works with, how to install it, what to do if your machine doesn't recognise it and what real savings it offers versus the original.

What it is and which printers it works with

The LC123 is an individual cartridge available in black and in the three colours (cyan, magenta and yellow). It is compatible with the following Brother models:

  • Brother MFC-J5910CDW, MFC-J6510DW, MFC-J6710DW and MFC-J6910DW
  • Brother MFC-J825DW, MFC-J835DW and MFC-J625DW
  • Brother MFC-J430W and MFC-J280W

Before buying, check on your printer's panel which reference it currently uses. If your machine asks for an LC123, this cartridge fits both physically and electronically without any adapters. If your model is more recent, you may need a different series: in that case take a look at our compatible LC3213 cartridge or the compatible LC3217 cartridge.

How to install it and what to do if the "cartridge is not recognised"

Installation is identical to that of the original cartridge: switch on the printer, open the cartridge access cover, remove the used one and place the new LC123 into its colour slot until you hear the click. Close the cover and wait for the machine to detect the consumable.

If a message such as "cartridge not recognised" or "incompatible cartridge" appears, it usually doesn't indicate a fault with the product. Try these steps:

  • Remove the cartridge and carefully clean the gold chip with a dry, lint-free cloth; a fingerprint or trace of moisture is enough to make the contact fail.
  • Reinsert it firmly until it clicks and confirm that it is in the correct colour slot.
  • If the message persists, switch off the printer, wait 30 seconds and switch it back on to force a fresh reading of the chip.
  • When the machine asks whether you wish to continue with a non-original consumable, accept: this is normal behaviour and does not void your printer's warranty.

Yield and savings versus the original

The compatible LC123 is designed to match the page yield of the original cartridge and to deliver a stable print density in both text and home photography. Because it is manufactured under ISO 9001 quality control, every batch undergoes verification, which reduces the risk of leaks or uneven ink.

The key difference lies in the cost per page: compatible ink significantly reduces the cost per copy while maintaining an equivalent result for everyday use.
