Compatible Brother DR-2000 / DR-350 drum: installation, reset and compatibility

Actualizado 18 julio 2026

The compatible Brother DR-2000 / DR-350 drum is the imaging unit (drum unit) that works alongside the toner in many Brother 20xx-series monochrome laser printers and their multifunction models. It is worth understanding exactly what this part does before buying it, because it is not the same as the toner cartridge: the drum transfers the toner onto the paper and wears out with use, not when the toner runs out.

What the drum is and which printers it fits

In these Brother machines the system is split into two independent consumables: the toner, which runs out quickly and is changed frequently, and the drum, which lasts many more cycles. That is why you can reuse the same drum across several toner changes, and only replace it when the printer warns that it has reached the end of its life or repeated defects appear on the page (streaks or marks at fixed intervals).

This compatible DR-2000 / DR-350 drum is designed for these models:

  • Brother DCP-7010, DCP-7020, DCP-7025
  • Brother HL-2030, HL-2040, HL-2070N
  • Brother MFC-7220, MFC-7225N, MFC-7420, MFC-7820N

The drum and the toner are separate parts. If you also need the toner cartridge for this same family of machines, we have the compatible Brother TN360 / TN2120 toner with a 2,600-page yield.

How to install it and what to do if it "isn't recognised"

Installation is straightforward. Open the front cover and remove the complete drum + toner assembly. Separate the toner cartridge from the drum, fit the toner into the new drum unit until you hear it click, and slide the assembly back into the printer. Always work away from direct light, as the drum is light-sensitive and must not be exposed to direct light.

In these Brother models the drum's end of life is controlled by an internal counter, not by an electronic chip. That is why, after fitting a new drum, you usually have to reset the counter manually so that the replacement warning disappears. The general procedure is: with the front cover open and the printer switched on, hold down the relevant key (on the HL models this is usually a button; on the DCP/MFC models it is accessed from the menu using the arrow keys) until the display or the LEDs confirm the reset. Check the manual for your specific model for the exact combination, as it varies between the HL series and the DCP/MFC multifunction models.

If a drum message appears at start-up, it is almost always this counter and not a fault with the product: once you reset it, the warning clears.

Yield and savings compared with the original

A compatible drum offers the same function as the original at a noticeably lower cost per page, which reduces the total cost of keeping the printer running. As a long-life consumable, its impact on the cost per print is low if it is combined with compatible toner as well. Frequently asked questions

Are the DR-2000 and DR-350 drums the same?

Yes, they are equivalent references for the same family of Brother 20xx-series printers (HL-2030/2040/2070N, DCP-7010/7020/7025 and MFC-7220/7225N/7420/7820N). This compatible drum covers both names.

Do I have to reset the counter when I change the drum?

Usually yes. In these models the drum's end of life is controlled by an internal counter, not by a chip. After fitting the new drum you need to reset it manually using the button or the menu on your model so that the replacement warning disappears.

Is the drum the same as the toner?

No. The toner is the cartridge that contains the printing powder and runs out frequently; the drum is the imaging unit that lasts many more cycles. You can change several toners before you need to replace the drum.

Does fitting a compatible drum void my Brother printer's warranty?

No. Using compatible consumables is legal and does not void the machine's warranty. You can find out more in our guide to the legal guarantee of compatible cartridges in Spain.
