How to install it and what to do if it "doesn't recognise the cartridge"

Installation is straightforward: open the front cover, remove the spent cartridge and take the new one out of its packaging. Gently rock it from side to side five or six times to distribute the toner evenly, remove the protective seal and insert it until it clicks into place. Close the cover.

These entry-level monochrome Samsung printers have no electronic chip in the cartridge, so you normally don't need any reset. If a low-toner warning or a "cartridge not recognised" message appears after installing it, try the following:

• Turn the printer off, wait 15 seconds and turn it back on so the counter resets.
• Remove and refit the cartridge, making sure you have completely removed the seal.
• Check that no packaging remnants or labels remain over the contacts.
