What toner does the HP LaserJet P2055 need, plus 3 compatible models

The consumable you need and what it yields

For the P2055 series you have two options, both with the same print quality and the same machine reference, but with a different capacity:

• Standard — Compatible HP CE505A / CF280A (05A) toner: yields 2,300 pages measured according to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard (standard yield for monochrome toner). It's the logical choice for normal office or home use.
• High capacity — Compatible HP CE505X / CF280X (05X) toner: yields 6,500 pages, also according to ISO/IEC 19752. It's almost triple the pages of the standard.

When to choose each one? If you print little or irregularly, the CE505A of 2,300 pages is more than enough and saves you having a cartridge sitting idle for a long time. If you print in volume (reports, delivery notes, documentation daily), the CE505X of 6,500 pages works out more cost-effective per page and forces you to change the cartridge far fewer times. Good news: in the P2055 series the XL version fits just like the standard, so you can step up in capacity without changing printer.

These models use an all-in-one cartridge (the drum is integrated into the toner itself), so you don't have to buy a separate drum: every time you change the cartridge, you also renew the image system.

How much printing costs you

Yes. The four variants of the series (P2055, P2055d, P2055dn and P2055x) use exactly the same cartridge. The letters only indicate whether the machine has duplex (d), network (n) or the most complete equipment (x), but the consumable doesn't change. It's the CE505A / CF280A in standard or the CE505X / CF280X in high capacity.

How many pages does each cartridge print?

The standard CE505A yields 2,300 pages and the high-capacity CE505X yields 6,500 pages, both measured with the ISO/IEC 19752 standard (the same method used to measure the original), so the yield comparison is direct and fair.

Does using a compatible toner void my printer's warranty?

No. Using compatible consumables does not void your machine's warranty. Article 120 of RDL 1/2007 (the General Law for the Defence of Consumers) protects your warranty right, and the manufacturer cannot condition it on you buying only its brand of toner.
