Compatible HP 153X W1530X toner: installation, chip reset and savings

Actualizado 18 julio 2026

The HP 153X (W1530X) toner is a high-yield monochrome cartridge designed for HP's most recent laser printers. Star Toner's compatible version delivers the same printing performance with certified ISO 9001 quality and a yield of up to 5,000 pages (to ISO/IEC standard), at a cost far below that of the branded cartridge.

What it is and which printers it fits

The reference W1530X corresponds to cartridge number 153X, the high-capacity variant of the 153 family. This compatible toner is designed specifically for the following machines:

  • HP LaserJet Pro 5001dn, 5001dne, 5001dw and 5001dwe
  • HP LaserJet Pro MFP 5101fdn, 5101fdne, 5101fdw and 5101fdwe

If your printer is one of these models, the cartridge fits without adapters or additional parts. Before buying, check on the label of the spent cartridge or in the printer's supplies menu that it corresponds to the 153X series.

How to install it and what to do if it "doesn't recognise the cartridge"

Installation is identical to that of an original cartridge: switch off the printer, open the front cover and remove the used cartridge. Unpack the new one, shake it gently from side to side to distribute the toner, remove the protective seal and insert it until you hear the click. Close the cover and switch the machine on.

Each unit includes its own chip, so in most cases the printer detects it instantly. If a "cartridge not recognised" or "not compatible" message appears, try these steps in order:

  • Switch off the printer, wait a minute and switch it back on to force a fresh reading of the chip.
  • Remove and reinsert the cartridge, checking that the chip is properly aligned with the contacts and that no seal remains stuck on.
  • Carefully clean the chip's gold contacts with a dry cloth.

Many of these messages come from HP firmware updates, not from a fault in the cartridge. We explain how to deal with this in our article on when HP firmware blocks cartridges.

Yield and savings versus the original

With up to 5,000 pages per cartridge, the 153X covers demanding office volumes with a very competitive cost per page. Print density and text sharpness remain stable throughout its entire service life, thanks to quality control under the ISO 9001 standard.

The key difference is the price: a compatible toner significantly reduces spending on consumables without giving up the stated yield. Frequently asked questions

Will this compatible HP 153X toner work in my HP LaserJet Pro MFP 5101fdw?

Yes. The W1530X is compatible with the entire LaserJet Pro MFP 5101 series (fdn, fdne, fdw and fdwe) and with the LaserJet Pro 5001 range (dn, dne, dw and dwe). It installs without adapters.

How many pages does the 153X cartridge print?

It yields up to 5,000 pages to the ISO/IEC standard, as it is the high-capacity variant (153X) of the family. Actual yield depends on the coverage of each page.

My printer says the cartridge isn't recognised, what do I do?

Switch the printer off and on again, reinsert the cartridge checking the chip alignment and clean its gold contacts with a dry cloth. It is usually a firmware message, not a fault in the cartridge.

Is it legal to use a compatible toner instead of the original HP one?

Yes, it is entirely legal in Spain and does not void the printer's warranty. The cartridge is manufactured to the ISO 9001 standard and includes a legal guarantee against defects.
