How to install it and what to do if the "cartridge is not recognised"

Installation is identical to that of a genuine cartridge: switch on the printer, open the access cover, wait for the carriage to move across, remove the old cartridge and slot the new one in until you hear it click. Remember to remove the protective strip, but without touching the gold contacts or the nozzle.

If a "cartridge not recognised", "used cartridge" or "not compatible" message appears, it can almost always be resolved with these steps:

• Switch the printer off and on again to force a fresh read of the chip.
• Take out the cartridge and gently clean the contacts with a dry, lint-free cloth.
• Reinsert it firmly until it clicks and allow a few seconds to pass.
• If the message persists, accept the option to continue (some models ask whether you wish to carry on with a non-HP cartridge).

Bear in mind that HP releases firmware updates that can block non-genuine cartridges. If your printer has stopped recognising cartridges that previously worked, read that article before writing off the consumable as faulty.
