How to install it and what to do if "the cartridge is not recognised"
Browse the available products and check compatibility, declared yield and price on each product page.
- Switch on the printer and open the lid so that the cartridge carriage moves into the replacement position.
- Remove the empty cartridge by pressing the tab.
- Take the new cartridge out of its packaging, remove the yellow protective strip and do not touch the chip or the ink outlet.
- Push it in until you hear a click and close the lid.
If the "cartridge not recognised" or "cannot be recognised" message appears, don't worry: it is usually resolved in seconds. Take the cartridge out and refit it, making sure it seats properly; carefully clean the chip contacts with a dry cloth in case there is any residue; and switch the printer off for a few minutes to force the chip reader to reset. If the machine still insists, remove and refit the cartridge a second time. These chips behave just like the originals, so the error is almost always a contact issue, not the cartridge.
Yield and savings versus the original
As an XL format, it yields far more pages than a standard cartridge, which reduces how often you need to replace it. The main advantage is financial: a compatible like this one costs a tiny fraction of what you would pay for the branded equivalent, with print quality designed for everyday home and office use. If you want to understand how much each printed page really costs you, we explain it in the real cost of printing, and in this original vs compatible comparison we print them side by side so you can judge for yourself.
Why buy it at Star Toner
Your Startoner consumable is covered by a three-year legal conformity guarantee. Printer coverage is governed by the manufacturer’s terms and may exclude damage caused by consumables. Using a compatible cartridge does not by itself establish the cause of a fault; keep your documentation and contact us if a problem occurs.

Frequently asked questions
Will the compatible Epson 603XL cartridge work in my Expression Home XP-3155?
Yes. Star Toner's compatible 603XL is suitable for the XP-3155 and for the rest of the XP-2100, XP-3100 and XP-4100 series, as well as the WorkForce WF-2810DWF to WF-2850DWF.
My printer says 'cartridge not recognised', what do I do?
Take the cartridge out and refit it firmly, clean the chip contacts with a dry cloth and switch the printer off for a few minutes to reset the reader. It is almost always a contact issue, not the cartridge.
3-year Startoner consumable warranty
No. Spanish law protects the use of compatible consumables and the manufacturer cannot void the warranty for it. We explain this in detail in our article on the legal guarantee.
How much do I save versus the original Epson cartridge?
The compatible 603XL costs a fraction of the price of the branded original while keeping the high-capacity XL format. From €1.99 it is one of the most economical options for these printers.
