Compatible Epson 664 ink for EcoTank: installation and savings guide

Updated

The compatible Epson 664 ink bottle is designed for Epson's EcoTank refillable tank system. If you own one of these printers, here we explain what it is, how to install it, what to do if a warning appears and how much you can save versus branded ink.

What it is and which printers it fits

It isn't a conventional cartridge, but an ink bottle that you use to refill your EcoTank's tank directly. It is compatible with these Epson models:

  • EcoTank ET-2500, ET-2550, ET-2600, ET-2650
  • EcoTank ET-4500, ET-4550, ET-14000
  • EcoTank L100, L110, L120, L200, L210, L220
  • EcoTank L300, L310, L350, L355, L365, L382
  • EcoTank L555 and L1300

Before buying, check that your model appears in this list and choose the colour you need to refill.

How to install it and what to do if the ink "isn't recognised"

Installation is simple because the EcoTank works with visible tanks:

  • Open the tank cover and remove the cap for the corresponding colour.
  • Uncap the bottle and pour it in without forcing until you reach the tank's maximum fill line.
  • Close the cap and cover firmly. Always respect the maximum mark to avoid overflows.

As this is a tank system and not a cartridge with a chip, there is no electronic recognition that blocks the ink. If, after refilling, the printer shows a low level, this is normal: the EcoTank doesn't measure the actual liquid, but rather estimates consumption. That is why, after refilling, you must reset the ink level from the printer's panel or software, following the "ink refill" wizard. That way the counter starts from full again.

Yield and savings versus the original

Compatible ink offers equivalent print quality for everyday text and documents, at a much lower cost per page. At Star Toner we stand for transparency: you can read our analysis original vs compatible printed side by side and work out your real spend with the guide on the real cost of printing. The tank system is already Epson's most economical; using a compatible bottle reduces the cost per page even further without changing your workflow.

If you want to objectively check colour quality after refilling, download our CMYK test page and print it before and after.

Why buy it at Star Toner

Your Startoner consumable is covered by a three-year legal conformity guarantee. Printer coverage is governed by the manufacturer’s terms and may exclude damage caused by consumables. Using a compatible cartridge does not by itself establish the cause of a fault; keep your documentation and contact us if a problem occurs.

Frequently asked questions

Will the compatible Epson 664 bottle work with my EcoTank printer?

It works with the EcoTank models in the ET series (2500, 2550, 2600, 2650, 4500, 4550, 14000) and the L series (L100 to L1300) listed on the product page. Check that your exact model appears in the list before buying.

Do I have to reset the ink level after refilling?

Yes. The EcoTank estimates consumption and doesn't measure the actual liquid, so after pouring in the bottle you must reset the level from the panel or software using the refill wizard, so the counter starts from full.

Why does my printer still show a low level after refilling?

Because the warning depends on the internal counter, not the tank. This is normal until you reset the level manually. As there is no chip, the ink isn't blocked and you can carry on printing.

Does using compatible ink void my Epson warranty?

No. Using compatible consumables is legal and doesn't void the equipment's warranty in Spain. You can check the details in our guide on the legal warranty of compatible cartridges.
