This range of Brother colour machines shares exactly the same consumable system: four toners (black, cyan, magenta and yellow) of the TN241/TN245 series plus a colour drum of the DR241/DR245 series. The letters in the name indicate each machine's features: CW adds a wifi connection, CDW adds automatic duplex (double-sided printing) plus wifi, and CDN adds a wired network and duplex. The HL references are printer only; the DCP and MFC are all-in-ones (they print, scan and copy), and the MFCs also add fax. Whatever changes between variants, the consumable is the same. The consumable you need and what it yields

In these machines two different parts coexist and it's important not to confuse them. The toner is the one that carries the coloured powder and is used up with use; the drum is the cylinder that transfers that powder to the paper and lasts much longer. The compatible Brother TN241/TN251 colour toner yields 2,500 pages to the ISO/IEC 19798 standard (colour yield). Bear in mind each colour is an independent cartridge, so you only replace the one that runs out. We also have the Brother TN245/TN241 colour toner, with the same yield of 2,500 pages ISO; both references work for the same printer family.

The compatible Brother DR241/DR245 drum yields 15,000 pages and, as you can see, lasts the equivalent of several sets of toner: you don't need to change it every time you replace a colour, only when the printer warns that the drum is reaching the end of its service life. How often do I have to change the drum?

The DR241/DR245 drum yields 15,000 pages, much more than the toner. It isn't replaced at the same time as the colour: you only change it when the printer indicates it has reached the end of its service life, and by then you'll have replaced several sets of toner.
