Is it compatible with your printer?

The TN2420 (and its high-yield version, the TN2420XL) is the toner used by all of these machines in Brother's monochrome laser range. The letters in the model number tell you the features: D = automatic duplex (double-sided printing), N = Ethernet network connection, W = Wi-Fi, and the prefix changes according to the type of device: HL are printers, DCP are all-in-ones (they print, copy and scan) and MFC add a fax. The consumable you need and how much it yields

These Brother machines work with a system of two separate parts: the toner, which contains the printing powder and is used up over time, and the drum, the part that transfers that powder onto the paper and lasts much longer. It's important not to confuse them: the drum isn't replaced every time the toner runs out.

The toner: you have two options depending on how much you print.

• compatible TN2420 — yields 3,000 pages (measured according to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard for monochrome toner). It's the standard option, ideal for moderate home or office use.
• compatible TN2420XL — yields 4,500 pages, also under ISO/IEC 19752. Choose it if you print a lot: by offering 50% more pages, you cut your cost per page and change cartridges less often. You'll find all the details in the TN2420XL guide.

The drum: the compatible DR2400 yields 12,000 pages, meaning it outlasts several toners before it needs replacing. You only need to change it when the printer itself tells you to (or you notice repeated lines and marks on the page), not every time you change the toner. How much it costs you to print

The great advantage of a compatible consumable is simple: the same page yield for much less money. A compatible TN2420 prints the same 3,000 pages as the original, and the TN2420XL the same 4,500, but at a fraction of the brand-name price. Does the compatible TN2420 work just like the original in my Brother?

Yes. The compatible TN2420 and TN2420XL are manufactured to work exactly like the original in all the models of the HL-L2310D / DCP-L2510D / MFC-L2710DN family listed above. If your printer uses the TN2420, this is your cartridge. If in doubt, check your model in the printer finder.

How many pages does each cartridge print?

The compatible TN2420 yields 3,000 pages and the TN2420XL yields 4,500 pages, both measured according to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard. The DR2400 drum lasts 12,000 pages and isn't used up with each toner; instead it accompanies several replacements.

Does using a compatible toner void my printer's warranty?

No. Under article 120 of Royal Legislative Decree 1/2007 (Consumer Protection Act), using compatible consumables does not void your printer's legal warranty. The manufacturer could only refuse a repair if it proves that the damage was specifically caused by the consumable, something that doesn't happen with quality products.
