Is it compatible with your printer?

The HP 153A/153X (W1530A/W1530X) is the black toner fitted by the whole LaserJet Pro 5001 series family and the MFP 5101 series multifunction machines. All these machines use exactly the same cartridge, so it doesn't matter which variant you have: if your machine is one of these, this is your consumable.

The letters of the name only indicate the machine's features, they don't change the toner. The d is automatic double-sided printing (duplex), the n is a wired network connection (Ethernet) and the w is Wi-Fi. The final e (dne, dwe, fdwe...) marks the models that came out with the HP+/Instant Ink subscription. The letters MFP and fd correspond to the multifunction machines, which also print, copy, scan and send faxes. In all cases, the black cartridge is the same: 153A or 153X.

The consumable you need and what it yields

For this family you have two options of the same black toner, depending on how much you print:

• Compatible HP 153A (W1530A) toner: standard capacity, yields 2,300 pages according to the ISO/IEC 19752 standard (standardised measurement at 5% coverage for monochrome toner). Ideal for moderate home or office use. More detail in its 153A compatibility guide.
• Compatible HP 153X (W1530X) toner: high capacity, yields 5,000 ISO/IEC 19752 pages. It's the same cartridge, but with more toner inside. Check its 153X compatibility guide.

Which to choose? If you print little and prefer a smaller initial investment, the 153A does the job easily. If you print a lot (more than a couple of hundred pages a month), the 153X works out more cost-effective per page and you change the cartridge fewer times. Both are an all-in-one toner: the cartridge itself already includes the drum, so you don't have to buy any separate drum for this series.
