Actualizado 18 julio 2026Share
Is your Brother HL-L2350DW, DCP-L2530DW or MFC-L2710DW asking for toner? You need the TN-2420 (or its XL version) and, sooner or later, the DR-2400 drum. The compatible toner costs €9.98 versus the €50-70 the original typically charges: you print at 0.33 cents/page and save a fortune without losing quality.

The TN-2420 toner: two yields, same ISO 9001 standard
You have two options depending on how much you print. Both are manufactured to the ISO 9001 standard, so the text sharpness and black density are exactly what you'd expect from a serious cartridge.
- Compatible Brother TN2420 toner · 3,000 pages · ISO 9001 — €9.98 (VAT incl.), ISO yield of 3,000 pages. It's the logical choice for the home or a small office.
- Compatible Brother TN2420XL toner · 4,500 pages · ISO 9001 — €13.98 (VAT incl.), 4,500 pages. If you print a lot, the XL lowers your cost per page and you change cartridges less often.
The real difference is the amount of toner inside the cartridge: the XL holds 50% more. No marketing tricks, just more powder to print more pages.
Cost per page comparison
Cost per page is easy to work out: price divided by the pages it yields. Here it is, laid out clearly, with the three supplies in this family.
| Supply | Yield (ISO pages) | Price (VAT incl.) | Cost/page | Vs. the original |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| TN-2420 toner | 3,000 | €9.98 | 0.33 cents/page | 3-5× cheaper |
| TN-2420XL toner | 4,500 | €13.98 | 0.31 cents/page | 3-5× cheaper |
| DR-2400 drum | 12,000 | €14.98 | 0.12 cents/page | Well below |
Put it in perspective: a branded original for these machines easily runs over €50. With the compatible TN-2420 you pay less than a fifth per page. If you'd like to see it with your own eyes, take a look at original vs compatible toner: we print them side by side.
Toner and drum: what each one is and how often you change it
Here's the key point that trips a lot of people up. In these Brother lasers, the toner and the drum are separate parts, not a single block.
- The toner is the powder that fuses onto the paper. It runs out quickly and you change it often (every 3,000 or 4,500 pages depending on the version).
- The drum is the roller that transfers that powder. It lasts far longer: around 12,000 pages, roughly what 4 TN-2420 toners yield.
That's why you don't change the drum every time the toner runs out. When the printer flags the drum (or you see repeated streaks or marks), fit the Compatible Brother DR2400 drum · 12,000 pages for €14.98. Its cost per page is just 0.12 cents.
Real combined cost: adding the toner plus the amortised drum, you print for 0.46 cents/page with the standard TN-2420, or 0.44 cents/page if you go with the XL. Hard to beat. If you're still unsure which one needs changing, we break it down in toner or drum: which to change and how often.
Installation and the toner warning that won't go away
Changing the toner takes about a minute: open the front cover, pull out the drum-and-toner assembly, separate the old toner, click the new one in until it snaps, and put it back in place. When you fit a new drum, reset the drum counter from the printer menu so the count goes back to zero.
If your Brother still shows the toner warning or freezes when you're done, that's normal on many of the brand's laser models: there's a continue mode to keep printing. You'll find the step-by-step procedure, which is very similar across this family, in Brother toner reset: keep printing.

Frequently asked questions
Does the compatible TN-2420 toner work with my Brother HL-L2350DW?
Yes. The TN-2420 is the supply for the HL-L2350DW and for this whole family: DCP-L2510D, DCP-L2530DW, HL-L2370DW, MFC-L2710DW, MFC-L2750DW and several more models. It yields 3,000 pages for €9.98. If you print a lot, the TN-2420XL steps up to 4,500 pages for €13.98.
What's the difference between the TN-2420 and the TN-2420XL?
Only the amount of toner. The TN-2420 yields 3,000 pages (€9.98) and the TN-2420XL yields 4,500 pages (€13.98), 50% more. The XL works out slightly cheaper per page (0.31 cents versus 0.33 cents) and means you change cartridges less often. Same ISO 9001 quality in both.
How often do I have to change the DR-2400 drum?
The DR-2400 drum yields around 12,000 pages, roughly four TN-2420 toners. Don't change it when the toner runs out: wait for the printer's drum warning, or for repeated marks or streaks to appear. It costs €14.98 and adds just 0.12 cents per page to your printing cost.
Do I lose the printer's warranty by using compatible toner?
No. Using a compatible cartridge is completely legal and doesn't void your Brother's warranty. The manufacturer can't force you to buy only its own brand. Our TN-2420s are manufactured to the ISO 9001 standard and we back them with a warranty. You'll find the legal detail in our guide to the warranty on compatible cartridges in Spain.
Why does my Brother keep warning about toner after I've changed it?
It's common on Brother lasers: the sensor doesn't always detect the new cartridge straight away. Almost all models have a continue mode to keep printing as normal, and when you fit a new drum it's worth resetting its counter from the menu. Just follow the procedure in our step-by-step reset guide.
Ready to spend less on every page? Add your Compatible Brother TN2420 toner to the cart, add the DR2400 drum when the time comes, and compare the rest of the references in the compatible Brother drums collection. You print the same, you pay much less.
