Compatible HP CF410A toner: installation, chip reset and savings
UpdatedShare
Here's what you need to know before and after installing it, no beating about the bush. Where a product page states a page yield, check its declared test protocol: ISO/IEC 19798.
What it is and which printers it fits
The CF410A corresponds to the HP 410A reference in black. It's a consumable designed for office use with moderate volumes. This compatible cartridge is valid for the following models:
- HP Color LaserJet Pro M452dn
- HP Color LaserJet Pro M452dw
- HP Color LaserJet Pro M452nw
- HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M377dw
- HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdn
- HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdw
- HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fnw
If your machine doesn't appear in this list, don't force the purchase: the black reference doesn't match across different ranges and the chip might not communicate with your printer.
How to install it and what to do if it "doesn't recognise the cartridge"
Installation is identical to that of an original cartridge: open the front door, remove the old toner by pulling the tab, take off the transport seal and the protective cap from the new cartridge, shake it gently from side to side to distribute the powder and slot it in until you hear the click.
The compatible CF410A incorporates a chip, so under normal conditions the printer detects it instantly. If a "cartridge not recognised", "not compatible" or "used" warning appears, try the following:
- Turn off the printer, wait a minute and turn it back on: most warnings clear with this restart, which acts as a chip reset.
- Remove and reinsert the cartridge, making sure the gold chip contact is clean and properly seated.
- Check whether you have a pending firmware update. Some HP updates block non-branded cartridges; we explain this in how HP firmware blocks cartridges.
Your Startoner consumable is covered by a three-year legal conformity guarantee. Printer coverage is governed by the manufacturer’s terms and may exclude damage caused by consumables. Using a compatible cartridge does not by itself establish the cause of a fault; keep your documentation and contact us if a problem occurs.
Yield and savings versus the original
The goal of a compatible is to deliver the same number of usable pages at a considerably lower cost.

Frequently asked questions
Does the compatible HP CF410A toner have a chip?
Yes. It incorporates a chip, so HP Color LaserJet Pro M452 and MFP M377/M477 printers recognise it automatically and display the toner level once installed.
What do I do if my printer doesn't recognise the cartridge?
Turn the printer off for a minute and turn it on again to restart the chip reading, reinsert the cartridge with the gold contact clean and check whether an HP firmware update is blocking non-original consumables.
How many pages does the CF410A print?
Where a product page states a page yield, check its declared test protocol: ISO/IEC 19798.
3-year Startoner consumable warranty
No. In Spain it is legal to use compatible cartridges and the manufacturer cannot void the warranty for this reason, unless it is proven that the consumable caused specific damage.
