Compatible Canon C-EXV50 drum: installation and yield guide (imageRUNNER 1435)

Actualizado 18 julio 2026

The compatible Canon C-EXV50 drum is the imaging unit that many imageRUNNER 1435 series users look for when the machine starts warning that the drum is running low. In this guide we explain exactly what this part does, how to install it, what to do if the printer does not recognise it and what savings you can expect compared with the original unit.

What it is and which printers it fits

It is worth distinguishing between two different consumables: the toner provides the pigment, and the drum (imaging unit) is the photosensitive cylinder that transfers that pigment onto the paper. They are separate parts with different service lives. This C-EXV50 drum is manufactured under the ISO 9001 standard and offers an approximate yield of 60,000 pages, far above the 17,600 pages of the associated toner cartridge, so you will replace the drum far less frequently than the toner.

It is compatible with exactly the following models:

  • Canon imageRUNNER 1435
  • Canon imageRUNNER 1435i
  • Canon imageRUNNER 1435if
  • Canon imageRUNNER 1435P

If you also need to replenish the pigment, there is the compatible Canon C-EXV50 toner designed for this same family of machines.

How to install it and what to do if "the cartridge is not recognised"

Installing the drum is straightforward: switch off the machine, open the front door, remove the used imaging unit and fit the new one until it clicks into place. Before inserting it, remove the seals and the protective sheet, and handle the cylinder without touching it with your fingers or exposing it to prolonged direct light.

If, on switching on, a message such as "the cartridge is not recognised" appears or the counter does not reset to zero, try these steps:

  • Switch off the printer, wait a minute and switch it back on so that the drum's chip is read again.
  • Remove and reinsert the unit, making sure it is properly seated in its guides.
  • Check the chip contacts: clean them with a dry cloth if there is any dust.

In some cases the message is only informative and printing continues as normal; you can check the status by printing a print test page to confirm that the drum is depositing the image correctly.

Yield and savings compared with the original

A compatible drum manufactured with ISO 9001 quality control offers sharpness and print stability comparable to the original throughout its service life, with the advantage of a noticeably lower cost per page. The difference is especially noticeable in office machines with high volumes, where spending on consumables adds up quickly. We analyse this calculation in detail in our article on the real cost of printing, and we compare quality side by side in original vs compatible.

Why buy it at Star Toner

At Star Toner we offer the compatible Canon C-EXV50 drum for €89.99, manufactured under the ISO 9001 standard and shipped from Spain. All our compatible consumables are covered by the legal guarantee that protects compatible cartridges in Spain, so using a non-original consumable does not affect your printer's warranty. Frequently asked questions

Does the C-EXV50 drum include the toner?

No. The drum and the toner are separate consumables. This product is solely the imaging unit (drum); the pigment is provided by the C-EXV50 toner cartridge, which is sold separately.

How many pages does this drum last?

It offers an approximate yield of 60,000 pages, far above the 17,600 of the toner cartridge, so it is replaced far less frequently.

My imageRUNNER says it does not recognise the drum — what do I do?

Switch the machine off and on so that the chip is read again, reinsert the unit making sure it fits properly and clean the chip contacts with a dry cloth. In many cases the message is only informative and printing continues as normal.

Does using a compatible drum void my Canon warranty?

No. Spanish law protects the use of compatible consumables, and the manufacturer cannot void the printer's warranty for using them.
